Aloitetaan melkein lopusta ja viestistä, jonka sain Robertilta 21.12.2022 ” Moikka. Lentoliput ostettu Suomeen huomiseksi. Oli pieniä vaikeuksia, ilmatorjunta ja sähkökatkot. Olemme elossa ja kunnossa” Huojentava ja helpottava tieto, uskomattoman rohkeat, määrätietoiset ja pyyteettömän hyväsydämiset soturimme Robert ja Elvis olivat perillä! Autot varusteineen oli toimitettu Bahmutiin ja alkoi yhtä vaarallinen kotimatka, josta selvittiin myös vain korkeahkon pulssin ja korottuneen stressitason vaivaamina (ihan kaikkien suhteen).
Euroopan traagisessa humanitäärisessä kriisissa auttamiseksi olimme vastaanottaneet käyttökelpoisia talvivaatteita ja muuta materiaalia tukemaan siiviilien selviytymistä talvesta. Idea tähän lähti kollegaltamme Robertilta, joka ehdotti, että emmekö voisi luopua hänen jokapäiväisessä työkäytössään pitkään palvelleesta Volkswagen Transporter vm. 2005 ajoneuvosta. Robert oli saanut avustuspyynnön Ukrainalaisten ystäviensä kautta Ukrainan armeijan yksiköltä Bahmutin alueelta . Niinkuin asioilla joskus meilläkin aikaisemmin on ollut tapana, voi joskus tilanne lähteä ”laukalle”. Päätimme näet nopeasti hieman laajentaa avustushanketta. Miksi lähettää tyhjä pakettiauto maahan, jossa tarvitaan ihan kaikkea. Päätimme varustaa myös toisen pakettiauton Volkswagen Transporter vm 2010 lähetettäväksi Ukrainaan. Molemmat ajoneuvot olivat hyvässä käyttökunnossa, mutta jo iäkkäitä, mutta käyttöarvoa niillä olisi varmasti ja tämä myös vahvistui saatuamme vahvistuksen avustuspyyntöön Ukrainan armeijalta, autot tultaisiin sijoittamaan MED-EVAC käyttöön. Samaan aikaan avasimme vaatekeräyksen, jonka pääarvo tässä kokonaishankkeessa kohdistuu juuri hätää kärsivään siviiliväestöön. Mukaan tiedotukseen lähti paikallinen lehdistö ja pian autoja kaarsi hallimme pihaan lähes jatkuvana virtana. Lopulta saimme liki 90 m3 vaatteita, joita toki tuli kuitenkin kaikissa paketoinnin formaateissa halliimme. Pakettiautoihin tästä kokonaisuudesta mahtui vain murto-osa. Apuun tässä vaiheessa tuli Lappeenrannan Teknillinen Yliopisto (LUT) ja kontaktoituamme reksiä Juhista alkoi tapahtua. Saimme yhteydenoton IRR-TV:n Merja Hakalta ja hänen ja LUT:in Harri Rötkön operatiivisesta ansiosta pian autostamme yli jäävä jäätävä kapasitetti oli matkaamassa Ukrainaan yhteistyössä Ahola Transportin rekassa (sulassa sovussa LUT:lla valmistuttujen kaminoiden kaverina villasukkien vieruskavereina) Enää meillä oli jäljellä pieniä haasteita, muovipussit eivät oikein menestyisi rekan perävaunussa kuormalavoilla muutaman tuhannen kilometrin matkalla . Kuumeisesti aloimme selvitää saatavilla olevaa kapasiteettia yli kuution halkosäkeistä ja iloksemme niitä yhteiseen hankkeeseemme lahjoitti K-Raudat Imatra ja Lappeenranta ja Minimani muiden muassa. Nyt ne pitäisi enää saada pakattua ”roadworthy” ja tässä jälleen talkoisiin tuli mukaan huikea henkilökuntamme, joka piti huolen siitä, että ehdimme aikataulussa Ahola Transportin kyytiin, vaikka tiukkaa tekikin.
Melkoinen projekti siis syntyi yhden auton luovutuksesta ja ilman kaikkia upeita tukiryhmiämme ei tämä olisi ollut mahdollista. Kuitenkin suurimman kiitoksen ansaitsevat Robert ja hänen apukuskinsa Elvis, jotka riskeerasivat myös henkensä kuljettaessaan autot Ukrainaan ja tietenkin koko meidän huikean hieno henkilökuntamme, jota ilman meillä olisi omaan käyttöömme todennäköisesti varsin riittävästi vaatteita.
Ukraine needs our help – private clothing aid- delivered successfully on 21st of December 2022!
Let’s start from almost the end of the journey and the message that I received from Robert on 21.12.2022 ”Hello. Plane tickets bought to Finland for tomorrow. There were minor difficulties, air defense and blackouts. We are alive and well” Reassuring and relieving information, our incredibly brave, determined and unfailingly good-hearted warriors Robert and Elvis reached the destination safely! The cars and their equipment had been delivered to Bahmut and an equally as dangerous journey home would begin. Return to Finland was also survived only by haunting high heart rate and an increased stress levels (for all).
To help with Europe’s tragic humanitarian crisis, we had received usable winter clothing and other material to support civilians to survive the winter. The idea for this came from our colleague Robert, who suggested that we could give up his Volkswagen Transporter (2005) which had served for a long time in his everyday work use. Robert had received a request for help through Friends of Ukraine from a Ukrainian army unit in the Bahmut region. As we have sometimes been used to with things, sometimes the situation can ”go wild”. You see, we quickly decided on a slightly boost up aid project. Why send an empty van to a country where everything is needed. We decided to also equip another van Volkswagen Transporter (2010) to send to Ukraine. the vehicles were in good working condition, but already old, but they will have a useful value and this was also confirmed after we received a confirmation request for assistance from the Ukrainian army, the cars would be placed for MED-EVAC use. At the same time, we opened a clothing AID collection, the main value of which in this overall project is aimed precisely at the civilian population suffering from the winter. The local press helped us in spreading the word and soon cars poured into our yard in a steady stream. In the end, we received about 90 m3 of clothes, which of course all came to our warehouse in wide and in imaginational packaging format. Vans could only fit a fraction of this total. The Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) came to help here, and after we contacted the principal Juhis, things started to happen. We soon received a contact from IRR-TV’s Merja Haka, and thanks to her and LUT’s Harri Rötkö’s operative actions, soon the residual capacity left over from our car was traveling in the truck of Ahola Transport in cooperation with Ukraine (mellowly in harmony as friends of stoves completed at LUT as of the same origin of woolen socks) Now we have a challenge left, plastic bags wouldn’t really do well in a truck trailer with pallets on their nearly 2000 km journey. We feverishly started to figure out the available capacity of the over-cube split beams, and to our joy, K-Rauta Imatra and Lappeenranta and Minimani donated to sacks our joint project as well many other companies. Now only to pack ”roadworthy” and here again our amazing staff came to the rescue, making sure that we made it to Ahola Transport on schedule, even though it was tight.
So quite a project was born from the donation of one car and without all the wonderful stakeholders this would not have been possible. However, the biggest thanks go to Robert and his co-pilot Elvis that risked their very lives driving the cars deep into Ukraine and our entire amazing staff, without whom we would have very versatile collection of winter clothes for our own use.
